4. Print your CD insert

Once you’ve chosen your album cover, you can print it off as an insert that fits into the front of a standard jewel case, slimline jewel case or clear plastic wallet.

What you’ll need:

  • Computer

  • A4 compatible colour inkjet printer

  • A4 cardstock paper (inkjet compatible, matt, 300gsm recommended*)

  • Standard jewel case, slimline jewel case or clear plastic wallet (at least 150 micron recommended)

  • Your chosen album cover downloaded to your computer.

*Check your printer’s specifications to find its exact paper weight limit. Attempting to print on cardstock paper that is too thick can permanently damage printer rollers.

Please note:

  • All album cover PDF files are sized to A4 paper. Please ensure you are using A4 size paper with an A4 compatible printer.

  • Before printing:

    • Ensure the scale is set to 100% in the print dialogue menu. This will ensure your album cover is printed at the correct size.

    • Change the paper type to Cardstock, Heavyweight or Thick in the print dialogue menu. This slows down the print speed and lays the ink correctly.

    • Ensure the paper is fed from the rear flat paper tray or manual feeder. This is to prevent jams and creasing as cardstock paper can sometimes be too thick for printers with standard front paper trays. To do this, ensure the Source or Feed From setting in the print dialogue menu is set to Rear Tray or Manual Feed.

  • After printing, leave the paper flat for a few minutes before handling as the ink takes longer to dry on cardstock paper than on standard printer paper.

Tip:

  • Once you’ve printed and cut out your album cover, write your tracklist on the back before inserting it into your jewel case or clear plastic wallet.
